Grand Slam Force ---------------- Sometimes, you have a hand that is so great all you need to know is how solid partner's suit is. The Grand Slam Force is a voluntary bid of 5NT (not after Blackwood -- because that would check for kings) and asks opener to bid 7 of the suit if the suit has 2 of the top 3 honors (AKQ). Unless the bid would be higher than the suit, GSF responder bids: 7(suit) w/ 2 of top 3 honors 6D w/ ace or king 6C w/ queen If Blackwood has been used, the cheapest minor available at the 6 level can be used as GSF. So: 1S 2H After agreeing on H, resp asks for aces. 3H 4NT Finds out opener has 2, and then asks if 5H 6C* opener has 2 of the top 3 honors (via 6C 7H 7NT bid). Opener says yes w/ 7H and resp bids 7NT after seeing 13 tricks. Responder's hand might have looked like: S: A H: KT9743 D: AKQ C: K2 See, resp needed to find out if the clubs were protected and if opener has the AQ (so there are no losers in hearts) before envisioning 7 NT.
